Art Masterpiece Program

The Art Masterpiece series is a 5 day long, two hour a day course which introduces a new artist and art style/ technique to participants each day. In this series, participants will learn the history of a different artist in each class and then create a project inspired by that artist. The intention is for participants to feel confident having learned new artistic skills and to feel less intimidated by new materials and approaches to art. Is is also powerful for students to carry this self confidence into other aspects of their lives, moving forward with positivity and possibility.

Design Series Program

This is a week long collaborative program. It includes all aspects of project development from concept to installation. Participants are introduced to art/tech skills including welding, woodworking, laser cutting, programming LEDs, and painting. Students are then tasked with creating an interactive community art project. Additional skill development includes problem solving, teamwork, time management and organizational structure. The week culminates with the projects being exhibited in Walter Art Gallery where families and community are invited to experience and celebrate the projects. The art pieces can then be moved and installed at the home of the collaborative nonprofit. The overall experience is about providing opportunity and growth, building confidence, and allowing participants to see themselves and shine in new ways. The intention is for the students to know that they are capable of changing their worlds.

The Art of Caring Program

This is a 4 week series with the intention of helping participants to process direct or secondary trauma, especially caregivers and health care professionals. Each weekly project is open ended, with no defined right or wrong outcome. Specific artistic techniques will be shown in hopes that participants can take new skills and apply them in their own lives moving forward. It will be a time for connection, reflection, and strengthening, in addition to developing tools for coping with stress and overburden.

Threading the Community through Art

This is a 5 week series with the intention of helping participants to view and express themselves in new ways, and of learning skills to connect with and understand others. Each weekly project is open ended, with no defined right or wrong outcome. Artistic techniques will be shown in hopes that participants can apply them in their own lives as they move forward. It will be a time for encouraging positive attitudes toward the self, for connection and meeting new friends, and for developing coping mechanisms to deal with isolation.

Monthly Free Virtual Workshops

The Walter Hive offers a free virtual arts workshop the last Monday of every month from 6-7 pm. Each class is centered around a specific artist, technique, style, medium, or other area of focus. Activities are led in an open ended manner allowing for personal creative expression as well as skill development. All ages and levels of art experience are welcome.

Weekly Open Shop Night

Every Wednesday from 6-9pm our makerspace is open to the community at large. It’s also the night we use to test new workshops and meet new volunteers. We have a well appointed shop that we use to develop our curriculum-based workshops and this is a chance for anyone to come in. We have equipment for welding, woodworking, laser cutting, 3D printing, electronics prototyping, painting, papercraft, sculpture and other projects and always have an event host who can facilitate your learning experience.

Community Workshops

The Walter Hive offers workshops to the general community for a small fee. Classes in welding, woodworking, wearable electronics, watercolor, acrylics, and other fine art and fabrication techniques are scheduled regularly. Check our calendar for availability.

Partner Organization Workshops

The Walter Hive offers tailored workshops to nonprofit community partners and the populations they serve.

School Field Trips

Teaching kids and adults the skills that will be changing the world.

The Walter Hive is steadily building upon the concept that there is tremendous power behind creative expression serving as a catalyst to build community, heal hearts, nourish minds and empower true self acceptance.
