Teaching New Skills
Beginner-friendly classes in welding, woodworking, fine arts, laser-cutting, led programming, and more.
During a 6-week collaboration between Pensar Academy and The Walter Hive, students learned skills like welding, plasma cutting, woodworking, and assemblage, which they applied in an upcycling project to transform used items into unique creations. In February, they showcased their work at The Walter Hive’s Community Gallery, where attendees could interact with the creations and witness their evolution from concept to completion. This journey was impactful for both The Walter Hive and the students, highlighting the limitless opportunities for creativity and self-expression through fabrication art.
In 2024, The Walter Hive expanded its reach through dynamic partnerships with a growing list of community organizations. We collaborated with groups such as the Phoenix Art Museum,Changing Hands Bookstore, Southwest Key Programs, Fostering Heros, Banner Health, and Tempe Community Action Agency to deliver customized art and fabrication workshops. These partnerships enabled us to serve over 5,000 individuals through 157 workshops, providing accessible, hands-on experiences rooted in creativity, healing, and connection. By tailoring each session to meet the unique needs of our partners and participants, we continued to foster self-expression, build resilience, and deepen our impact across diverse communities.
157 programs were offered in 2024.
