Camp Courage 2018

Camp Courage 2018

I just spent my twelfth year up in the pine forest of Prescott at the annual week long camp for child and teen burn survivors.  The camp is sponsored by the Arizona Burn Foundation.  The Walter Hive supports the camp through donations for various activities, and we take Walter the Bus up for a big dance party under the stars.

Walter has become a beloved part of the camp over his past eight years in attendance.  The kids understand the message he brings of the potential for greatness in each of us and of never giving up.  He is an example of second chances in life.

Here we are at the Super Chill Cafe, serving fruit smoothies and healthy snacks to the campers and frozen frappachinos and much appreciated morning coffee to the counselors, staff, and adult volunteers.

The kids participate in regular scheduled activities such as a ropes course, archery, swimming, and tie dye.  We also provided many surprises, including an escape room full of puzzles, some challenging games at field day, a balloon animal expert, a giant blow up obstacle course, and other opportunities for fun and teamwork.

These survivors are beautiful in every way.  Their determination and stories of courage are an inspiration and I am honored to be a part of the Camp Courage family.
